Y3 - formal subtraction (HTO - HTO)
In school, we return to the use of concrete maths apparatus so that children can recognise what maths is taking place. We then move onto drawing pictures to represent what we had been doing with resources. Finally, we work in the abstract, using the formal written method that most people are familiar.
Y3 - concrete methods to multiply two-digit numbers by one-digit numbers
Here, we used place value counters but we might use dienes equipment instead. At home, you could use 10p and 1p coins to recreate this.
