Here, we use different apparatus to represent different numbers that use Tens and Ones.
Y1 - bonds to 20 using concrete apparatus
For this, we might use dienes apparatus (used in the video) but we might also use maths cubes or uni-fix. These calculations can be copied at home by using rectangles to represent the bars we have made, drawn on squared paper.
Y1 - using part-whole models
How we use part-whole models to explore addition and subtraction facts. At home, you could use 1p coins, counters or draw the number of counters in the smaller parts of the part-whole model.
Y1 - understanding our 5x tables
Again, we used Numicon but you could use counters in groups of fives (possibly in different colours per group of five that replicate the Numicon layout). Alternative, pennies or pictures would also work.
