Reception Pupils

Welcome to Reception

The Reception class at Wigginton Primary is a welcoming and exciting place for your child to begin their journey through school.  A safe and friendly environment enables the children to flourish and learn. They are supported and encouraged to develop as independent individuals who can interact with their friends to explore and share new experiences.

In Reception we follow the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS). We have our own curriculum which links to Year 1.  We love to learn in Reception by playing and exploring, being active and through creative and critical thinking both inside and outside of the classroom.   A rich and exciting learning environment is provided to promote learning skills and a love of school. Learning in Reception is secured through the opportunities created for the children through child-initated and adult-led activities of which play and observation establish a vital role in creating a curriculum tailored to the chidlren.

The Early Years Foundation Stage has 7 areas of learning.  These are:

  • Communication and Language
  • Physical Development
  • Personal, Social and Emotional Development
  • Literacy
  • Mathematics
  • Understanding the World
  • Expressive Arts and Design
