Year 6 Trip to Crucial Crew on Tuesday 9th July 2019

Extra Information for Year 6 Crucial Crew Visit

The Crucial Crew project is always evolving and trying to keep current with new and emerging issues and concerns to raise awareness in all areas for this key stage.  They have sent more information regarding one of their workshops.

This year they have a new workshop being provided by Barnardo’s on hate crime. It covers subject areas – LGBT, Sexual Gender and Race. It looks at Respect, Diversity and Consequences in these sensitive areas. When people are subject to bullying and crimes against them sometimes physical but more than often psychological –affecting their mental health, it can have devastating effects on that person and family as a whole.

The workshop looks at this issue and explores in an interactive workshop for year 6 ages, the awareness and how an individual can hopefully deal with this and how and where to get help within school or outside with other agencies and organisations .

Parents can also get assistance and advice /guidance from Barnardo’s.

It is a very sensitive area and this notification is to prior inform you all for when your child attends Crucial Crew. If you do not want your child to experience this workshop , then we can easily make provision to sit out and re-join- 15 minutes later - the next crucial crew workshop in the carousel.  Please do let us know.

Presenters will be delivering this subject at an age appropriate level for year 6.

REQUEST FOR PARENTAL HELP on 8th November 2018

Dear Parents/ Carers

To mark the end of our WW1 topic, we are going to join with the other local schools to share and celebrate work that we have done on this theme. Class 6Ry will be visiting Ralph Butterfield School and Class 5JL will be visiting Headlands School on Thursday 8th November 2018. Both classes will be leaving Wigginton at 9.15am.

Consent for this visit is not required as you have consented previously on the ‘Parental Consent Form for School Activities Outside of the Classroom’.

However, we are looking for parent helpers to accompany us to the local schools. If you are able to help on this trip please could you contact the school office staff (01904 552225) as soon as possible. We will confirm with you at the beginning of next half-term if your help is required.

Class 5/6B will be hosting pupils from the 2 local schools at Wigginton Primary.

With many thanks,

Information sent out to Parents/Carers during w/c 1 October 2018

Dear Parent / Guardian,

As part of our World War One topic, we are going to be looking at loss and remembrance.  The children will be exploring life in a trench and we would like to recreate one in a shoebox!  Please could you send any empty shoeboxes that you have with your child.

The key question for our R.E. work will be “What do religions say to us when life gets hard?”  This will include discussions about; reincarnation, karma and heaven.  We recognise that this could be a sensitive subject for some children.  If you are concerned in anyway please do not hesitate to come in or email us.

Thank you for your ongoing support,

The UKS2 team
